Eyore was saying to himself, “This writing business. Pencils and what-not. Over-rated, if you ask me. Silly stuff. Nothing in it.” Winnie the Pooh
Handwriting With Katherine was born out of the need for specialized occupational therapy services for children who struggle with the mastery of handwriting skills. These are the children who just "don't get it" when it comes to writing the "A-B-C's." As this business flourished and I became immersed in the research and professional network that surrounds handwriting development skills, I discovered the void that existed between the teaching of handwriting skills and the remediation of the underlying developmental skills that facilitate handwriting mastery. Teachers needed help with their students' handwriting struggles and they looked for guidance from occupational therapists. However, I found that occupational therapists were asking for help as well. In response to this need, I opened a clinic that provided direct services to those children. After much success, and the need to move toward other goals, I recently have condensed my services to include consultation with therapists, teachers, and parents and the offering of my book, Handwriting Development Assessment and Remediation: A Practice Model for Occupational Therapists.
Welcome to Handwriting With Katherine. I am a pediatric occupational therapist who specializes in the assessment and remediation of children's handwriting development skills. I am also a teacher with an understanding of the link between the mastery of handwriting skills and success in school. I offer consulting occupational therapy services designed to assist therapists, teachers, and parents with students' handwriting needs.
I have recently published a book titled, Handwriting Development Assessment and Remediation: A Practice Model for Occupational Therapists, which is available for purchase through this site.
